Before Starting the Programme

Can I visit St Marks before the programme begins?
You are welcome to visit St Marks before admission if it helps you or your whānau become familiar with the environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Phone time

Junior once a week for 75 minutes, we can work with you if your needing time to contact children. One senior phone time is three times per week.

Personal outings

No personal outing for juniors, once senior you can propose for three outings per weeks, St Marks will only support positive activities and engagement.

Visits

Possible to have a 2 hour visit after on your second weekend here whilst in junior phase, St Marks only supports prosocial relationships, you may be declined engaging with those not supportive of your recovery.

Junior / Senior stage

You can apply to become senior on the fourth week of your programme however this is not a given and entirely up to how you are progressing on the programme.

What you can bring

Clothes, shoes, toiletries, art supplies, books, puzzles. You can have a mp3 player with headphones that does not connect to Wi-Fi once senior, radio alarms are provided in each room.

Food

We are aligned with the heart foundation and support healthy eating as a part of recovery, you are only allowed sugar free items onsite once senior, additionally everyone has the option to purchase either an ice cream or sugar free drink each weekend on the group outing.
On personal outings you may purchase what you like however we encourage this in moderation and exploring healthier options.

Whānau

Your whānau member is safe and well looked after. They will have a full medical check-up in their first week. They will be asked to grant permission for contact with you and other people, and if they give it we are happy to let you know how they are doing. After the junior phase you may visit them at certain times. Towards the end of their programme, we encourage them to visit home if it is ok with you. We can arrange Zoom meetings after junior phase if needed.

We know that sometimes, relationships have been put under strain, and we encourage you to engage with your whānau member with fresh eyes, they will be drug and alcohol free and will have learnt some new skills here.

You are also welcome to come have a look round before your whānau member starts here if it helps.
